Council of Trent & Index Librorum Prohibitorum (FB)
Neil Montana:
I need to find a value for my book. I have searched Abe, eBay, libria (something close to that) and I have not found the copy that I have.
1564 printing of the council of Trent. All Latin. Pig skin binding / wrap.
I need to know what the book is worth, and really could use all of your help.
Michaela Hayes:
The book likely contains the canons and decrees issued by the Council of Trent. These documents were essential for implementing the Counter-Reformation efforts, including the establishment of seminaries for the proper training of priests, the reform of religious life, and the codification of church laws.
The mention of "Cum privilegio Caes. Maiest." indicates it was printed with the privilege (authorization) of the Emperor, adding to its authenticity and significance.
This book is a primary source document from a pivotal moment in Church history.
I would imagine and I'm not a professional book dealer, just a collector of books 🙂
Low End: $1,000 - $3,000
Mid-Range: $3,000 - $7,000
High End: $7,000 - $15,000
If you can show a chain of custody it will always put a book in the upper price range, what ever that may be.
If I were in your shoes, I would seek a professional appraiser and speak with an auction house. What a gem you have!
